Forecasters warn of heat nearing triple digits

RALEIGH — The National Weather Service is warning residents of the Carolinas that a two-day heat wave could push temperatures near triple digits.

Forecasters said Monday temperatures could reach 100 degrees in some areas and heat indexes across much of the region will go even higher. The weather service issued a heat warning for parts of central and eastern North Carolina, saying people need to take proper precautions, such as limiting outdoor activity and drinking plenty of water.

Temperatures are expected to remain high on Tuesday before falling back to highs of about 90 by the middle of the week.
