Former Burgaw mayor reclaims old office; current mayor loses council race

BURGAW, NC (WWAY) — In Pender County, former Burgaw mayor reclaims his old office. Eugene Mulligan pulled a big upset in 2013 denying Pete Cowan for his third full term as mayor.

Cowan was back on the ballot for mayor while Mulligan ran for town council. In the race for mayor, Cowan is now back in office. He beat Jeffrey Williams II and Johnnie Stringfield with more than 74% of the vote.

As for Mulligan, he is out finishing third in the race for two seats.

Council incumbents Jan Dawson and James Murphy Sen. were the winners again Tuesday night.
