Former detention officer arrested for indecent liberties with a child

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Detectives with the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office arrested a former Detention Officer on one count of indecent liberties with a child.

Tommy Allen McPherson, 56, was placed under a $10,000 bond. His first court appearance was held at the Columbus County Courthouse this afternoon.

McPherson, who had previously held the rank of sergeant in the detention facility, resigned from the Columbus County Detention Center last Thursday; several days before accusations were made to law enforcement.

It’s currently an ongoing investigation.
