Former inmate turned entrepreneur helping others with non-profit

NEW BERN, NC (WCTI) — Corey Purdie of New Bern spent eight and a half years behind bars.

“I was a teenager caught up, you know, in activities that was outside of what I should have been doing,” Purdie said.

But now he’s wiping his slate clean by cleaning cars. He started a car washing business that gave way to his nonprofit organization called “Wash Away Unemployment.” The nonprofit gives those who have just been released from jail an opportunity to better themselves.
