Former Tar Heel P.J. Hairston arrested at Wrightsville Beach

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Former UNC basketball player P.J. Hairston was arrested this afternoon at Wrightsville Beach.

New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Lt. Jerry Brewer said Hairston was booked in the county jail around 5:30 p.m. after WBPD picked him up on an outstanding warrant for harassing communication out of Orange County. Brewer said Hairston was booked under a $1,000 unsecured bond.

Wrightsville Beach Police Chief Dan House did not immediately return a call for more information.

Hairston played for the Tar Heels from 2011 until 2013, when he was suspended. UNC announced that December he would not be reinstated.

The Miami Heat drafted Hairston in the first round of the 2014 NBA Draft. He has since played for the Charlotte Hornets and Memphis Grizzlies. He spent the past season in the NBA Development League.
