Former social worker pleads guilty to defrauding state of $120,000
BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC – On June 28th, 2010 in Brunswick Superior Court former Brunswick County Department of Social Services case worker, April Shawnette Stuckes was sentenced to 48-67 months in the North Carolina Department of Correction. Stuckes plead guilty to Felony Obtaining Property by False Pretense.
This plea was the result of a six moth investigation ending in December of 2008 by the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation. This investigation showed that Stuckes signed up fraudulent and ineligible Department of Social Services clients and received the benefits for herself in the excess of $120,000.
