Former Southport mayor testifies to Easley grand jury
RALEIGH, NC (WWAY) — The former mayor of Southport testified before a federal grand jury in Raleigh today. Norman Holden had no comment for reporters as he left the courthouse. The grand jury has been investigating former Gov. Mike Easley.
A federal subpoena sought information about a job contract between the Department of Transportation and Holden during the last decade. The DOT paid Holden about $129,000 over several years to serve as a liaison between the DOT and the community. The subpoena also asked for information about a house Easley owns in Southport.
Former Southport Police Chief Jerry Dove and Wilmington DOT office head Allen Pope tell WWAY they’ve been subpoenaed, but will not have to testify.
