Forum set for candidates interested in filling Susi Hamilton’s seat

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) – Ten people who have expressed interest in filling the District 18 seat Susi Hamilton vacated when she was sworn in as Secretary of Natural and Cultural Resources will speak tonight.

New Hanover County Democratic Party Chairman Richard Poole says a candidate forum will take place at 6:30 tonight in the Assembly Room on the third floor of the New Hanover County Courthouse. Each of the candidates will be asked the same 5 questions and be given the same amount of time to answer each one.

The ten candidates include:

Deborah Maxwell
Judy Justice
Harper Peterson
James Knox
Brenda McMillan

Poole says these candidates have expressed interest, but it does not imply that they’ve been endorsed or nominated.

The House District Executive Committee will then meet at Leland Town Hall on Wednesday to appoint the new representative to the North Carolina House of Representatives.

The candidates will be given the chance to speak at this meeting and then the four member committee will vote. No comments will be accepted by the audience at thismeeting.
