Four New Hanover County men charged with Lee County murder
SANFORD, NC (WWAY) — Lee County investigators have charged four men from New Hanover County with a murder that happened more than a year ago.
Harley Joe Chavis, 20, of 318 Cathay Rd., Wilmington, Rodney Henry Mintz IV, 24, of 145 Bryan Rd. Wilmington, and Anthony Derek Strickland, 21, of 615 Castine Way, Wilmington, were arrested and jailed Friday, according to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office. Emmanuel Edward Sanders, 28, of 3006 Thatch Ct., Castle Hayne, was arrested in New Hanover County late last night.
All four men are charged with murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon and kidnapping in the death of Anthony Wayne Giles.
WRAL in Raleigh reports Giles, 45, was killed during a Nov. 22, 2013, home invasion in which a man carrying an assault-type rifle broke into a house on Hickory Nut Court in Sanford, announced himself as “sheriff” and demanded money.
Giles’s wife said the man tied her up after she gave him money. Investigators said the couple’s two adult children were also in the home, but they were unharmed.
The four suspects are all in jail without bond.
Investigators already charged six Sanford residents earlier this year in connection with the crime, according to WRAL.
