Fourth grocery store could be coming to Pine Valley

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — As Wilmington and New Hanover County continue to grow, the number of grocery stores coming to the county continues to grow as well.

Construction is currently underway for a Publix and an Aldi grocery store is already in the works for the area which already has a Food Lion.

Now, The Star News reports the city’s planning board has approved rezoning for more retail space to be built on vacant land behind that Food Lion. That approval includes 36,000 square feet of space for a grocery store — making it the fourth in the Pine Valley area.

Khristi Ferretti lives and works in Pine Valley and said she can see why people may have mixed feelings about the number of stores coming in.

“There’s two sides to it,” Ferretti said. “I’m certainly worried about traffic, but as a business owner, I’m happy that we’re going to have more things going on here, along with the construction going on up on 17th Street.”

The rezoning plans must also be approved by the city’s subdivision review board and the city council.
