Fowler resigns as Columbus County attorney

The Columbus County attorney resigned this week amid allegations that he was doing personal business on the tax payers’ dime.

According to published reports, Steve Fowler’s office computer and county issued laptop were seized last Friday.

County officials were investigating allegations that Folwer had been e-mailing and chatting on the county computer during work hours.

There were further allegations that Fowler was paid to spend four days in Raleigh related to redistricting, but never met with some of the people he went there to see.

On another occasion, Fowler attended a county commissioner’s conference in New Bern, but was not seen by other county officials who attended the conference for almost two days.
