Franklin Graham: Fla. pastor wrong to burn Korans

GAINESVILLE, FL (AP) — Evangelist Franklin Graham is joining the chorus of religious leaders asking a Florida pastor to cancel his plans to burn Korans on the anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

The son of Billy Graham has had his own controversial history with Islam, describing the religion as evil in 2001, but he says Pastor Terry Jones is going too far if he burns Korans this Saturday. He said he has tried to call Jones but hasn’t made contact.

Graham, in a statement issued by his North Carolina church, said it’s always wrong to deface or destroy any religion’s holy writings, even those someone disagrees with. He said Jones has the right as an American to burn the Qurans as a political act, but that doesn’t make it right.
