Free fishing on the Fourth
Some people spent this Fourth of July fishing, and for good reason. North Carolina law states that every Fourth of July, anyone can fish for free in all public fishing waters across the state.
The law was passed 15 years ago to promote the sport of fishing.
Fishermen say the free day was a treat. “At this day and time, I have for kids so any price is too high, but we make due in compliance of the law,” said James White of Watha.
Annual saltwater fishing licenses are 15 dollars for state residents, and 30 dollars for non-state residents.
License holders must be 16 or older.
