Friends of musician fatally stabbed continue his work

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Friends of a  Wilmington musician who was fatally stabbed Friday are working to finish a song he recorded.

Those who knew Ben Privott said music was a big part of his life.

Trent Harrison, owner and operator of the Hourglass Studios, said he admired Privott’s talent.

“Very very talented, amazing musician great song writer,” said Harrison. “I always knew that he was a very good keyboard player and a good drummer as well.”

Harrison said a few months ago Ben decided to record a song. He said it had been years since Privott had recorded a song solo.

“He just felt inspired, after his dad passed, to write a song about him,” said Harrison. “Along with other friends of his, local musicians in town recorded the tune.”

After hours of work in the studio Ben was almost done with his song titled ‘Airwaves’.

“We were pretty well through the mixing. I was trying to hear back from him about some changes in the mix,” said Harrison.

But Harrison wouldn’t hear back. Privott was stabbed to death early Friday morning.

“I plan on going forth and finishing it along with the help of the musicians who worked on it,” said Harrison. “I was just thankful I had the opportunity to work with him.”

Harrison said they want to finish ‘Airwaves’ in time in for his celebration of life ceremony on Sunday.

As far as the investigation goes into Privott’s death, the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office is still following up on leads.
