From salt to shine: The importance of a car wash after winter weather

SHALLOTTE, NC (WWAY) — As the winter weather clears up, many drivers are heading to the car wash to give their vehicles some much-needed TLC.

We visited Riptide Car Wash in Shallotte, where the team shared how important it is to take care of your car after driving through snow, ice, and salt.

Salt used to clear the roads can cause serious damage to your car. According to Matthew Maier, General Manager at Riptide Car Wash, it’s crucial to wash it off as soon as possible.

Matthew Maier explains:
“Salt is very corrosive and can damage the clear coat if it’s left on too long. Also, the undercarriage of your vehicle, where there’s raw metal, can rust over time—your suspension, exhaust, and other components can all be affected. The salt can really take a toll if it’s not cleaned off.”

Maier shares that after cleaning, they apply a ceramic coating to your car for added protection against the elements.
