Front Street reopens to traffic
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — It’s a sight we haven’t seen in six months: Cars driving down Front Street in Downtown Wilmington without having to detour around construction. The Front Street Project is finished three weeks ahead of schedule. That’s good news for businesses in the middle of the tourist season.
“Oh it’s wonderful,” said Sam Rayan, a pizza delivery driver. “Finally we have no construction. Now everybody’s free. We have a place to drive; (don’t have to) drive all around, and it’s very nice. We were surprised that it looks like this. It’s very good.”
Several restaurant and store owners on Front Street say the project hurt their business. Now that it’s over, they’re expecting business to pick up again.
