Full Belly Project tries out irrigation invention

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A local inventor and his team of Hoggard High School students tested one of their inventions at Greenfield Lake this weekend. The invention known as the Tsunami Pump uses the force of river water to generate energy necessary to provide pump water.

The City of Wilmington gave the group the OK to test the pump at Greenfield Lake a few weeks ago. Jock Brandis and his Full Belly Project create and test new inventions every Saturday. The organization provides technology to third world countries and poor farmers in America. They say Saturday’s test was a success.

“It was great to see that it actually worked and it was a feasible concept, because most of the ideas that we have don’t quite pan out,” Connor Brex said.

The team says it will test the pump out again next Saturday after making some necessary modifications.
