Fundraiser for beach fire victims
CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — A week after the deadly fires in Carolina Beach folks organized a pig pickin to raise money for for the victims of that fire. There was barbecue and a silent auction, live bands, all happening at The Last Resort bar. The owners of the bar organized the event.
A fire relief fund was set up after the fires that burned condos and vehicles and killed 2 people. Folks say this was a great way for the community to come together to show their support.
“Here the whole island, Kure Beach, Carolina Beach, Fort Fisher, even over the bridge people are coming together to help people who were effected by this horriffic incident,” said Bob Lewis, former Carolina Beach mayor who attended the event.
Even before the pig pickin he said More than $50,000 had been raised for the Pleasure Island Fire Relief Fund.
