Funeral arrangements set for UNCW sports pioneer

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A memorial service will be held Saturday for the pioneer of the athletics department at UNC Wilmington. Bill Brooks was the first baseball coach at the school as well as the first basketball coach. He also served as athletics director for 40 years.

Brooks died Monday at the age of 88.

The service will start at 1 p.m. Saturday. A visitation will follow.
