GE Hitachi deal to bring more jobs to area

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — GE Hitachi says a new deal with a Virginia power company will mean its New Hanover County plant is about to grow.

Friday afternoon GE Hitachi announced its selection by Dominion Virginia Power as the technology partner for a nuclear power plant project near Richmond. Hundreds of GE Hitachi employees celebrated the big announcement at the Castle Hayne facility.

The announcement should mean more jobs for the area.

Leaders say GE Hitachi posted dozens of jobs today, but they expecting that number to multiple in the future.

CEO Caroline Reda says the company is thrilled to explore the possibility of bringing the world’s most technologically advanced reactor to Virginia.
