GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy presents $10,000 to Chamber Foundation

Wilmington, N.C. — Jack Fuller, President and CEO of GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy (GEH), has presented $10,000 to the Greater Wilmington Chamber of Commerce Foundation for use in its educational programs. Fuller noted that the donation should be directed to a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) related program. STEM is one of the focus areas of Cape Fear Future.

“This program provides students with the knowledge, skills and ability to become more competitive in the global marketplace,” Fuller said during the check presentation at the Chamber. “It is, in fact, preparing the future employees of GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy.”

At the 2010 GE Power & Water Leadership Meeting in January, GEH received the Power & Water Turnaround Award for 2009 performance. The award included $10,000 to be given to a charity chosen by GEH.

Fuller told Chamber members that GE employees are committed to helping their communities. “Employees will sponsor more than 80 events and log more than 6,000 hours of community service in the greater Wilmington area this year,” he said. Lori Butler, GM, EHS, is the GEH representative to the Greater Wilmington Chamber Education Foundation.

“For more than 50 years, GE has invested in community programs based on a fundamental premise: a quality education ushers in a lifetime of opportunity, which helps build a strong and diverse workforce and citizenry,” said Fuller. “Today, the need for a quality education has never been more urgent.”
