Get cooking! Food trucks now allowed at Carolina Beach

CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — A week after filing a lawsuit against Carolina Beach, food truck owners are now able to operate in the town.

“Food trucks are welcome!” said Mayor Joe Benson after town council quickly removed a barrier to truck owners in the town’s ordinance.

Carolina Beach had required food truck operators also have a brick-and-mortar presence in town in order to operate. After truck operators filed suit, the town rescinded that portion of the ordinance.

Benson says while he wishes food truck operators had not filed the lawsuit, he is happy they will be able to operate in city limits.

At a meeting Tuesday, council requested more information and guidance from town staff under the direction of Town Manager Michael Cramer. Benson says he expects a report on how similar size towns manage food trucks at the October 9 meeting.
