WILMINGTON, NC (StarNewsOnline.com) — A 9-year-old girl hit by a sport utility vehicle about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Andrews Drive and 17th Street was conscious and talking after she was taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center, and doesn’t appear to have life-threatening injuries, a Wilmington Police Department sergeant said.

The girl was riding her pink bike across St. Andrews Drive when she was hit by a black SUV, said Sgt. Mike Donelson of the police department’s traffic unit.

Donelson said the girl was thrown from the bike by the collision and the bike was run over by the SUV, crushing it.
