Girl P.O.W.E.R. students graduate from program

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — It was graduation day for the girls in Williston Middle School’s Girl P.O.W.E.R. Club.

The group started earlier this year as a pilot program and had about 25 girls participate.

Thursday’s ceremony featured the Girl P.O.W.E.R. Pledge, poems, songs and a guest speaker.

New Hanover County spokeswoman Valita Quattlebaum said at the graduation that the benefits for girls in the club included improved attendance and class participation, improved grades, improved awareness in choices, fewer behavioral issues, training on respect and sisterhood, lessons on setting goals and achieving them, exposure to successful women in their fields, and friendships.
