GLOW academy plans 4-building campus in Wilmington
WILMINGTON, NC (StarNews) — Wilmington’s all-girls charter school has submitted plans for its “forever home” on Manly Avenue.
The StarNews reports the Girls Leadership Academy of Wilmington (GLOW) plans to build a 700-student school on donated land near Maides Park. GLOW, which has been operating out of a temporary home at 606 S. College Road since 2016, announced in March the donation of 28 acres from Wilmington businessman Scott Sullivan and other members of the local Cameron family, through their holding company Dry Pond Partners.
According to plans submitted to city planners Wednesday, the new school will contain four buildings: a middle school wing, a high school wing, a media center and an administrative building with a 250-seat cafeteria. Combined, the four buildings will cover 57,531 square feet. The plans also include a bus loop and two parking lots with 140 spaces.
Cary-based CLH Design is the project’s designer, and architecture firm LS3P is also attached.
