Go Green Team at Ogden Elementary gets recognized

Some Ogden Elementary students are especially enthusiastic about going green. The Go Green Team meets twice a month to create energy-saving projects. Their work has gotten them recognized on both state and national levels.

“We look around the classroom to see if the lights are on, if the sink is going, or if something is covering the air conditioning or any computers are on,” said Gregory Markowski of the Go Green Team.

Then the team grades the teacher to let them know how energy efficient their classroom is.

“The kids have worked so hard all year and this is our first year and I didn’t know how it was going to go and all the ideas are student driven,” said Mindy Nicoll.

Energy audits are just one of this green group’s many projects.

“We made some solar ovens made out of pizza boxes and we also made solar houses,” said Alyssa Gowdy.

Their hard work has gotten them state and national recognition from the National Energy Education Development Project.

Eight of the students will travel to Washington DC in June to accept their award from the National Energy Education Development Project.
