Gold Star Mothers hold dinner and dessert auction
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Honoring American Gold Star Mothers. That was at the center of a charity event at Beau Rivage Golf and Resort tonight.
The branch in Wilmington held a dinner and dessert auction. A Gold Star mother is a mom whose child serves in the armed forces and dies in the line of duty. It was open to the public and included a 50/50 raffle, a putting contest, and a live dessert auction. The funds collected would go towards the groups charity and helping other Gold Star Moms. Norma Luther is a Gold Star Mom who says putting on events like this help her and others in the community heal.
“In the very beginning you don’t want to wake up the next day and you’re surprised when you do. Your heart hurts so much. But, my choice was to try to work and do service for other groups, other people and in doing so, I began to heal,” Luther says.
Other organizations were at the auction such as the American Honor Guard, Purple Heart, and Step Up for Soldiers.
