Gov. Cooper appoints Deb Butler to Hamilton’s NC House seat
RALEIGH, NC (WWAY) – Governor Roy Cooper has appointed Deb Butler as a member of the North Carolina House of Representatives.
Butler is filling the seat Susi Hamilton vacated when she was appointed North Carolina’s Secretary of Natural and Cultural Resources.
Last week, the House District 18 Executive Committee nominated Butler out of a pool of 10 candidates.
Butler will be filling Hamilton’s unexpired term.
Butler was in Raleigh today to get familiar with the ‘lay of the land’ when she received word Gov. Cooper accepted her nomination.
She is being sworn in around 6:00 p.m.
When reached by phone, Butler said, “I’m terribly honored and eager to serve. Looking forward to it very much.”
Butler said she had wanted to be sworn in in Brunswick County.
Instead, she plans on holding an event to commemorate her appointment in Leland in the coming days.
