Gov. McCrory appoints Bell to NC Court of Appeals

RALEIGH, NC (AP) — Gov. Pat McCrory has appointed a Charlotte judge to fill the remainder of an unexpired term on the North Carolina Court of Appeals.

Special Superior Court Judge Lisa Bell will fill the seat of outgoing Chief Appeals Judge John Martin, who retired August 1. She will serve on the court through December 31.

A special election will be held in November to fill the seat for an eight-year term. Bell is not among the 19 candidates who have filed to run for the seat.

Prior to her appointment to the Superior Court bench by McCrory in May 2013, Bell served as Chief District Court Judge for Mecklenburg County. She has been a judge since 1998.
