Graham appearing with NC Senate hopeful Tillis

CHARLOTTE, NC (AP) — The cavalcade of notable Republicans helping Thom Tillis’ U.S. Senate campaign in North Carolina now includes Sen. Lindsey Graham.

South Carolina’s senior senator planned an appearance with Tillis on Friday afternoon in Charlotte to discuss national security issues. President Barack Obama’s military actions against the Islamic State group in Iraq and Syria are a likely topic.

Both Graham and Tillis are on the November ballot.

Graham is a Senate Armed Services Committee member who’s espoused a more aggressive effort in dealing with the militants than Obama.

Tillis has blamed Obama and Democratic incumbent Kay Hagan for failing to counter the Islamic State threat sooner. Hagan’s campaign says Tillis has avoided saying how he would have voted last week to train and arm Syrian rebels were he in the Senate.
