Gravesite found behind elementary school

BELVILLE — A gravesite found behind Belville Elementary School will be the topic of discussion Monday night.

Brunswick County commissioners will decide whether to move the old graves to another location.

The human remains and turn of the century artifacts were found by a developer while doing work behind the school.

Hawkeswater developers want to build a residential subdivision on the site.

The remains found date back to the late 1800s, or early 1900s.

A public hearing will be held Monday night at 6:30 at the Brunswick County government center in Bolivia. After that county commissioners will meet to decide whether to move the site.
