Greek festival celebrates culture and traditions
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The annual Greek Festival kicked off this weekend at the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church.
Participants got into the Greek spirit with dancing, a marketplace, music, and church tours. Delicious food and cooking demonstrations were also available. Volunteer Thomas Simotas said it’s a way to share cultural traditions with the rest of the community.
“The Greeks have a pretty big presence already, here in the Wilmington community, and we just want to help market that and make it a prominent statement,” Simotas said.
He added that the main goal is to make sure people leave with baklava and a smile on their face.
