Group files ethics complaint over Gov. McCrory’s RGA travel

RALEIGH, NC (AP) — Gov. Pat McCrory is amending his 2013 ethics disclosures as a left-leaning advocacy group filed a complaint over his failure to properly disclose trips paid for through the Republican Governors Association.

Progress North Carolina Action filed a complaint with the State Ethics Commission on Monday over McCrory’s attendance at several RGA events at luxury hotels and resorts paid for by undisclosed political donors. State ethics forms require officials to disclose any “scholarship” of more than $200 to attend a conference or event.

McCrory legal counsel Bob Stephens said the governor will disclose $13,000 spent on seven trips.

Progress North Carolina Action filed a separate complaint in January following an Associated Press report about more than $185,000 in cash and stock McCrory received in 2013 from online mortgage broker LendingTree.
