RALEIGH, NC (AP) — A gun-rights group has asked a North Carolina court for a temporary injunction to keep the state from enforcing its ban on concealed weapons at the State Fair.

Grass Roots North Carolina argues that a recent change in state law makes it legal for people to carry concealed guns at the fair. It says the Department of Agriculture, which oversees the fair, is breaking the law by telling gun owners otherwise.

The group filed a complaint Thursday afternoon in Wake County Superior Court.

A spokesman for the agriculture department did not immediately return a call seeking comment. Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler has said that while he’s a gun owner, he thinks it’s a bad idea to allow guns at the crowded fair.
