Guardsman involved in tractor-trailer crash still recovering

WILMINGTON, NC (StarNews) — Nebraska National Guard member Brett Olmstead was still in serious condition Tuesday after a tractor-trailer crash last week.

The 21-year-old and Nebraska native was operating a military 18-wheeler that was carrying ammunition when it overturned on the exit ramp off Interstate 140 at U.S. 74-76 just north of Leland, according to N.C. State Highway Patrol officials. The incident report stated that Olmstead was speeding at the time of the April 27 crash.

Olmstead was cut from the wreckage along with his twin brother and another guardsmen, Alec Zachary.
