Halloween has scary history of drinking and driving
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington police and deputies urge Halloween celebrations to be fun, and safe.
The Governor’s Highway Safety Program’s “Booze It and Lose It” campaign starts tonight. Director Don Nail says nothing is scarier on this holiday than a drunk driver.
Last year, New Hanover County had 24 DWI arrests during this holiday. Residents say they’re planning ahead to not be on that list this year.
“Just in case, you never now. It’s always good to have a backup plan, because the last thing you ever want to do is get behind the wheel with anyone that’s ever been drinking. So, it’s always good to have more than one option,” Jill Arnold said.
This weekend is one of the busiest for cab companies, public transit, and now Uber.
Uber is Wilmington’s newest transportation option. The ride sharing service uses an app to request a driver, get a time estimate and pay all at once.
Authorities say it’s too early to determine if this new option has had a noticeable impact in the reduction of DWIs in Wilmington.
