Hammerheads score goals with rehab patients

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The folks at the Rehabilitation Hospital at New Hanover Regional Medical Center are getting into the Olympic spirit with the help of the Wilmington Hammerheads.

The soccer team came out to shoot some goals with the patients as part of the Olympic games series where patients get to try out some Olympic inspired activities that fit in with physical therapy.

For some like Dillon Brown who was temporarily paralyzed just two weeks ago diving into shallow water, these games are an opportunity to have some fun while in recovery.

“It seems like your whole healing process can never come soon enough, but I’m just really lucky to be alive and lucky that everything is going as quickly as it can,” Brown said.

Brown said watching Team USA in Rio is inspiring for him to keep pushing through his therapy and he is thankful for all the support he has had while working to regain the ability to walk.
