Hampstead home lights up neighborhood for good cause

HAMPSTEAD, NC (WWAY) – It’s a light show you can see from the highway, but this holiday display isn’t just about the lights it’s about giving back.

Tens of thousands of Christmas lights adorn this house in Hampstead and you and your family can come check it all out for free.

For three years Tonia Register and her husband have been opening their home up to the public to enjoy the Christmas lights they put on display, but the holiday collecting started much earlier, back when their kids were little.

But this light show isn’t just about the lights, the Registers are collecting for Toys for Tots.

“Well we have a donation box but we don’t want to make it so it’s required because we know some people just can’t,” said Tonia Register. “We want all the kids to be able to enjoy it.”

She says all the toys stay local to the Cape Fear and she hopes this year they are able to bring more toys to kids than ever before.

Register says they start preparing everything in July and setting up the decorations in August.

The light display opened on Thanksgiving day and will run throughout the holiday season.

If you want to check it out yourself, the address is 81 Old House Road in Hampstead.
