Hampstead man charged after motorcyclist killed in crash

PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A Hampstead man is dead and another faces charges after a deadly crash on HWY 210 late Sunday afternoon.

First Sgt. Wells with the NC Highway Patrol said it happened near Island Creek Road in Hampstead.

Wells said Thomas Anthony Allen, 58, of Hampstead, was driving a 2015 Chevrolet Sonic east on 210 when he attempted to turn left on Annabelle Lane.

Wells said Allen turned in front of motorcycle driven by James Williams Haines, III, 46.

Haines was heading west at the time of the crash. He later died from his injuries.

Allen is charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle. No word on whether he was hurt during the crash.

Investigators do not believe texting or alcohol were factors in the crash.
