Hanna upgraded to Hurricane; Brings rip currents to NC beaches
Red flags were flying at area beaches this Labor Day. Carolina Beach-goers experienced some intense rip currents. Lifeguards and Ocean Rescue expect the same conditions through the end of the week. The labor day holiday meant the beaches were a bit more crowded than usual, and lifeguards had to keep an extra eye out for those who decided to take a swim. Ocean Rescue Supervisor Gabe Galluppi said "If people want to come out to Carolina Beach I’d advise not going out past your knee, and if you do definitely swim near a lifeguard tower." There were two ocean rescues Monday morning in Carolina Beach. Everyone made it out of the water unharmed.
