Happening tomorrow: meet veteran and author Julia Maki


ONSLOW COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — From growing up in a small town, to joining the navy, and raising a family, Julia Maki has stories to tell. The veteran and author will be meeting fans at her book signing this weekend.

Maki has written five books, including stories for children. Her book “What They Don’t Teach You in Deer River: Navy Memoirs of a Small Town Girl” chronicles her time in the Navy. Her children’s books “My Mom Hunts Submarines”, “All Hands on Deck: Dad’s Coming Home”, and “Still My Dad” are written for children living with parents in the military and talks about some struggles families face.

Maki will be signing books this weekend at the Onslow County Veteran’s and Active Duty Family and Friends Day at the Onslow County Government Complex in Jacksonville.
