Hearing scheduled in ’95 Ft. Bragg shooting case

FORT BRAGG, N.C. — An Army paratrooper who pleaded guilty in a 1995 shooting that killed one soldier and wounded 18 others is facing another motions hearing at Fort Bragg.

The military said the hearing will be held Tuesday for Sgt. William J. Kreutzer Jr. to consider defense and prosecution motions. Kreutzer pleaded guilty last week and will be sentenced next week.

Kreutzer was charged with one count of premeditated murder, 18 counts of attempted murder, one count of violating a general order by transporting weapons on post and one count of stealing government ammunition.

Kreutzer was sentenced to death in 1996, but a military appeals court overturned the sentence, saying his defense lawyers were ineffective.
