‘Heart the Homeless’ event provides clothes for less fortunate people
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) –The downtown Wilmington riverfront was transformed into a store of sorts for those who are less fortunate to get some new clothes, free of charge.
It was the third annual ‘Heart the Homeless’ event, put on by Katie Moore and her team of Wilmington realtors.
The group invited the community to donate any excess clothes or shoes after Christmas.
There were plenty of smiles as people got to trade the clothes on their backs for something brand new.
“It’s warm today, nobody has short sleeves. They’re wearing these shoes around for long periods of time, so we’ve got great shoes for them. They’re just really thankful, really happy,” said Jen Peterken.
Peterken said any clothes or shoes not picked up at Saturday’s event would be brought to local homeless shelters.
