Heat poses problem for some bus riders
WILMINGTON — The heat also poses a problem for people traveling by bus. Wanda Garcia and her mother Beatrice Brandon were delayed in Wilmington, heading home on a bus to Raleigh.
Garcia’s mother relies on a wheelchair. The two women say they couldn’t board the Carolina Trailways bus because it was full. The women were upset at having to wait in the sun for four hours.
A Wilmington Trailways spokesperson said it’s the company’s policy here in Wilmington to close between one and four p.m.
Brandon said, “We would like to see a change for the people to be able to sit there when they pay their money and get out of the heat.”
Wheelchair, or physically challenged riders will need to contact the bus station at least 48 hours in advance to ensure a seat.
And remember if your bus ride is in the evening and you arrive at the Wilmington Greyhound bus station at one p.m. — you’ll need to make other arrangements while waiting for your bus.
