Heavy loading equipment injures 3 men at NC port

Three Port of Wilmington workers are nursing their injuries sustained in a loading accident at the port Sunday afternoon.

According to the Wilmington Fire Department, three longshoremen were hit by a crane while loading one of the ships. All three men suffered broken legs in the accident.

Wilmington Assistant Fire Chief, Ron Jordan, said the department responded to a call that the workers were trapped. “When we got on scene we were advised that they were not trapped, but they had been injured in the hull of the ship while they were loading some cargo,” he said.

The Ports Authority is investigating the incident.
