Hendersonville enacts mandatory water rules

HENDERSONVILLE — Hendersonville has imposed mandatorywater restrictions because officials say residents didn’t heed a plea last year for voluntary conservation.

The Times-News of Hendersonville reported Wednesday that the western North Carolina city draws most of its water from the Mills River, which has dropped substantially in the past week.

The city of about 60,000 also buys some water from Asheville.

City Manager Bo Ferguson said the area hasn’t had substantial rainfall in recent weeks. Residents who are cited for flagrant violations could be fined $500 or face disconnection of their water.

Restrictions include a ban on outdoor watering, filling pools and washing cars at home.
