Hickory teen dies in wreck, driver charged

HICKORY, NC (AP) — A Hickory teen has died in a wreck and another teen has been charged with driving while impaired.

Local media outlets reported that 17-year-old Jay Robertson died in the wreck Sunday evening. The 17-year-old who was driving the car also has been charged with felony death by motor vehicle.

Police say the teen lost control of the car and it overturned.

About 20 grief counselors were to be at Hickory High School on Tuesday to help the teens’ classmates.
