High Schools go ‘Newsome Strong’
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — It has been three days since the unfortunate death of 6th grader Alex Newsome. The Roland Grise Student was struck by a line drive and killed at baseball practice on Friday. His legacy was felt Monday night at the Ashley Spring Break Baseball tournament.
The four New Hanover County teams will be showing their support throughout the week. With wet weather looming … the first two games of the tournament were moved up from Tuesday to Monday. All four teams were wearing their ‘Newsome Strong’ shirts.
While the games went on tonight at Ashley, it was with some heavy hearts. Everyone was thinking about Alex Newsome and the uniforms while a modest token of recognition will be passed down to those who will appreciate them the most.
A memorial scholarship fund in Alex’s name has been set up through Bank of America, where is mother works. You can donate at any location at any time during the tournament.
