High school play aims to end bullying

WILMINGTON — A group of Hoggard High School theater students want to make schools safer by putting an end to bullying.

The students collaborated to write an original play called “The Bullying Project.” It takes an inside look at what happens to those who are bullied. It recently won a regional theatre arts award for excellence.

Hoggard High School senior Brian King said, “If people understand that bullying is actually affecting our world and partly the cause for certain things like Virginia Tech or Columbine, then if we stop it now, if we at least make people aware of what’s happening, we can help cut it at the source.”

The Bullying Project will represent Wilmington at the North Carolina Theater Conference fall theater gathering. That takes place at Fayetteville State University, beginning November 15.
