High school students operate cranes, bulldozers
It’s not every day high school students get to operate cranes and bulldozers. That’s just what an estimated 600 juniors and seniors did at the Department of Transportation’s construction career day.
The event was held at Cape Fear Community College’s north campus in Castle Hayne.
Students had quite the hands-on experience. They worked with nail guns, saws and various types of equipment. It was a true taste of working in the construction field.
Early college high school student Justin Hall said, “I got to do wiring on an electrical wall socket, we got to run a little navigational system on the inside of a computer bobcat and I got to run a beam and a backhoe.”
Construction career days run through Thursday.
